Timing Tips
- •Extensive research has shown that most employers would like to view a video introduction in 60 seconds or less. Practice makes perfect! Practice the candidate script (out loud), so that you are familiar with the flow and that you are able to complete your video in one minute or less.
Clothing Tips
- •Wear a professional outfit. Solid colors photograph the best. Do not wear stripes!
Environment Tips
- •Lighting: Do not use natural sunlight. Windows should be avoided so that shadows do not appear. If you cannot avoid a window, try and cover it with a dark sheet. Make sure you are in a well lit room. You may want to bring in extra lamps to ensure you can properly see yourself on the video.
- •Noises: Keep out background noises (doors opening, music, talking, traffic, and coughing).
- •Background:Solid colors work best. Make sure you do not blend in with your background color.
Camera Tips
- • The right distance is essential for a great video. Make sure you are centered in the frame, waist up and sized proportionately in the frame. Not too small, not too big!
Make-up Tips:
- • Powder will help decrease shine issues you will get from the lighting.
Editing
- Do not combine more than 2 takes. Keep editing seamless. Do not have any dead space between speaking or from one take to the next. If you are combining takes make sure that you stay in a consistent place on the screen.
